Twitter.com/Lingeriedunet #MGWV #F4F #RT Picasso once said that all children are artists—“the problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.” Luckily self-taught Tokyo illustrator Mogu Takahashi (@mogutakahashi) has remained an artist, forging an aesthetic that combines childlike rawness with subtle adult wit. Her hand-drawn animals and people in whimsical scenes trigger nostalgia for what it was like as children, left to our own devices for long hours with markers, watercolor and acrylic paint. But this creative anarchy is deceptive—Takahashi’s world is carefully crafted with an artisanal approach to color, line, and material. The sketchbook is perhaps the analogue Instagram, so it’s fitting Takahashi’s feed is filled with almost-daily selections from her dead-tree sketchbook, with her doodles sprawling onto everything from ceramics, fingernails and puppets. There are also occasional cameos by her pet parrot. For her #GucciGram, she recreated the #GGCaleido print by hand as a forest for her cheerful characters to explore. In one post, her scrawled words proclaim “Draw More Freely”—and she inspires us to do the same. See more talents through link in bio.
